Morning Runner have got very prestigious support slots for Coldplay this summer. And if this is anything to go by I’m sure the foot tapping Coldplay followers would have been suitably impressed.
‘Work’ kicks off pounding and barging its way to your ears. Its early Embrace meets U2. Aiming big, singer Matthews towers his voice above the thunderous drums and whirling keyboards. The piano driven ‘Hold Your Breath’ is a harmony woven piece that Keane would be proud of, but instead of merging itself in ballad territory it dances round the edges. It’s about taking a step back, catching a breath and seeing exactly what’s going on.
‘Its Not Like Everyone’s My Friend’ is a thrashing mix of distortion and piano before it gently slips in to melodic mode before crunch, its back up to full throttle again.
Not bad, not bad at all.
