This guy knows what he’s doing. I’m quite surprised to see that he’s on Lex Records, then again Lex is always full of surprises.
Kid Acne is South Yorkshire’s finest hip hopper. He’s funny in the same way that Goldie Lookin’ Chain are funny…though I’ve got to admit that I prefer the beats on the GLC album. I think Kid Acne needs to get a different producer.
This album is a strange mix of hip hop and strange punk like songs. I’ll admit that his take on BDP’s South Bronx, South Yorks did make me smile.
There’s not too much more to be said about this album. It’s not good enough to be considered as a serious album. It’s not funny enough to be cherished in the same way that GLC are. The beats aren’t appealing enough for it to stand on it’s own either. I think that is why I’m so perplexed as to why this guy is signed to Lex (the home of SBM, DangerDoom, GhostDoom etc).
I think Kid Acne is only ever going to be considered in terms of novelty value and I’m afraid to say that there are others there already and they’re doing it a hell of a lot better.
