This is the first time I’ve ever encountered Souxsie in any of her creative incarnations. I’ve got a ‘Banshees album bit I’d never listened to it or even heard it.  I’m afraid it had been consigned to the (ever growing) must-listen-to pile.  Anyway, back to the matter at hand…

Here Comes That Day was a complete surprise to me, in every way.  I was initially shocked by the style of song and then by the wonderful, lustrous voice which stunned me like a rabbit in the headlights.

This song is the second to be taken from Siouxsie’s  Mantaray album.  It sounds like a cross between a Garbage song and The Propellerheads and Shirley Bassey.  The Garbage comparison is an interesting one because after a little Wikipedia research it appears that Siouxsie is Shirley Mansons favourite singer.

I’ve also just listened to the Banshees album.  Fans from that period may be a little alarmed by what they hear here.  There’s no awkward timings, strange silences, weird melodies here.  Purists beware. This is fully accessible, high quality, well executed pop music.  I’m even thinking that I might buy the album myself.

(8/10)
