What I’m really looking for is more bands that sound like cheeky little urchins that have a rasping voiced frontman. This is, perhaps, what you might be able to hear if you took a stroll through record company offices and turned your psychic abilities up to eleven (that’s one more mind readingy than ten).

The Brightlights
are the winners of Virgin Mobile’s 2007 Road to V competition, apparently. I can only imagine that this was decided by some record company exec's who are too afraid to reward genuine groundbreaking creativity.  The alternative, that this was decided by the public, is far too shudder inducing to even contemplate.

If you like The Kooks and all their ilk and you want to buy another record that sounds the same as all of your other records than I suggest that you keep a close eye on this band.  You will not be disappointed.

So, you might have surmised that I am not a fan of this.  You’d be correct in your assumption but I will say that this is very competent bandmanship.  I cannot fault The Brightlights on their zest and vigour or the proficiency.  I just wish they had a smidgen of originality.

Definitely something for those of you who like your music to play safe and not alarm or challenge you in anyway.  Enjoyment for the bland among us.
