‘All I got’ is a successful second single for the Surrey singer/songwriter. He has cracked the winner combination of 2007 for a successful single and done it with a little bit of originality. Purely from the fact he has adopted an American accent as opposed to the ‘super cool’ cockney one that seemed to be springing up everywhere else in Britain.
Faulkner’s vocals on this song have a natural, velvety tone and the self harmonising is always a treat when the lead is so attractive. His acoustic guitar is quite simplistic against the funk bass line and the nice and shiny lyrics fade into the background like a warm sunny evening when you’ve been in the pub garden since 10.
Faulkner plays music that you could buy your mum for Christmas and she’d say there were some lovely tunes. The Rembrandts did songs not dissimilar to this and at the time there was call for it. Now at a time when acoustic singer songwriters are two to the dozen it’s going to take more than a nice voice, some easy chord changes and matted locks to impress us.
