'Float' is the title track taken from Flogging Molly’s latest album. This time around their typically Irish themes of boisterous boozing and good times are replaced with a traditional acoustic Celtic-folk tune.
The single shows a growth and maturity within the band and perhaps a sense of finally being settled musically. Whilst not the lively ode to the Irish way of life they’re known for, their niche sound remains. Rebel rousing with the urge to drink copious amounts of Guinness (the usual inspired effects of a Flogging Molly tune) may be missing, but it is suitably replaced with touching, yet somber, Irish balladry. Hardened frontman Dave King pours his heart and soul out, yet still maintains his Gaelic pride. This proudly showcases a hard-to-find true grit, absent from many of today’s contemporary acts.
'Float' is a bluesy moment of reflection, just before the party is about to kick off again.
