'Fantasies' is the fourth offering from indie new-wavers, Metric. The Canadians make a return following a four year absence with a fantastic new album. The irresistible lead single 'Help, I'm Alive' kicks off the record, which maintains its charm and energy throughout.

Bursting with buzzing guitar hooks and poppy synth, 'Fantasies' is a highly accessible first time listen which continues to grow with each play. Emily Haines' sweet vocals add to Metric's endearing pop aspect, whilst the band gives strength to indie rock credibility. They posses a sound that manages to drip of saccharin without going overboard, successfully creating stick-in-your-head gems. Even during the albums slower tracks, the feeling and enthusiasm of the quartet remains strong.

Four years between album releases is a lengthy timescale by today's expectations, especially for such a talented band that, for the most part, have slipped under the radar. They are no strangers to the music scene, touring the world circuit to support some of the bigger bands in their genre, while briefly popping up here and there with their semi-mainstream appeal. But lacking has been that break through album that puts them on par with their peers. 'Fantasies' is their best chance at doing just that, presenting their tightest and most infectious collection of songs to date. If you are into the pop tinged garage-rock of bands such as Veruca Salt, Jimmy Eat World and My Vitriol then chances are you will be impressed.

Having already built a core fanbase and frequently brushing shoulders with the elite of indie rock on their travels, Metric can only get bigger, and this could very well be the stepping stone to the recognition they deserve.
