Morrissey’s back with the second single taken from 'Years of Refusal'. Despite pushing fifty, the miserable middle-ager still hasn’t cheered up or decided to reflect more positively on life, his latest release is no less the dedication to depression you’d expect.

Despite his typically downbeat nature, 'Something is Squeezing My Skull' is a more refreshing offering than some of his past releases. Lyrically, all is not well in the world, but musically it presents Morrissey’s more finer and accessible work. Driven by the power of distorted guitars, energetic hooks and his trademark voice and apathy, he shows the emo-brigade how it’s really done. No whining here, just over-dramatic energised crooning about the bleaker side of life.

Usually people would get quickly despondent with one man’s ode to how life sucks, but of course nobody does it in such an engaging and ironically witty way as Morrissey. Depressive moaning aside, 'Something is Squeezing My Skull' is actually a fantastically catchy tune which prevents him dragging you down with him. You might find yourself singing along though...
