Having already conquered their native Ireland and delivered a few surprise hits Stateside, Bell X1 hope to crack the U.K with ‘The Ribs of a Broken Umbrella’ from their latest record ‘Blue Lights On The Runway’. The song is based on a heart tugging true story from the band’s travels in the U.S.A about an elderly Polish immigrant who’d spent his entire life alone searching and waiting for a lost love.
Often referred to as ‘Ireland’s best kept secret’, ‘The Ribs of a Broken Umbrella’ fuses synth, soft vocals and a pop flavoured indie sound to endearing effect. It shows the band’s keen eye for a great melody whilst not shying away from intriguing subject matter.
With four critically claimed albums having already reached the heights of their national charts, including their latest, it’s about time Bell X1 broke out over here. This shows they are fully capable of writing a good song and hints that it’s only a matter of time.
