Phil ? Hi Guys! How was the London show a couple of
nights ago?
Undercut: Hi. It went well thanks! It was nice to get back into it
because we haven?t played since we last toured. It was a good warm up for the
gigs we?ve got coming up.
Phil ? Great. So what inspired you to start your own label?
Undercut: I guess it was around a year ago that we started the label. We
started it because we would have labels approach us and say how great they
thought we were blah blah ? at the end of the day they were all full of false
promises. We thought that we had some really good songs so we did it ourselves.
It took a long time to get it all together ? we had to get a publicist and a
radio plugger but the hardest part was getting a distributor.
Phil: Was it hard breaking out of Bristol?
Undercut: Yeah, it took a while. I mean, we did the whole London pub
thing. With those gigs it doesn?t matter if you?re first on or headlining; no
one has heard of you before but the crowds are picking up. Step by step we?re
getting more people along to the gigs. Strangers are starting to turn up
(everyone laughs).
Phil: What was it like working with such a great producer?
Undercut: We were lucky to come across Ian (Grimble) so early on. He
believed in us from the start. He?s so patient ? he really makes us feel
comfortable when we're in the studio.
Phil: So you release your next single ?To Die For? on June 20th.
Are you planning on doing anything around that release to promote it?
Undercut: As an independent label without an agent, it?s difficult to
book a tour. That?s where the bigger labels have an advantage because they have
got more clout. We?re booking our own dates at the moment. We have got a few
London dates coming up though. On June 8th We are playing at the Luminaire in
Kilburn. We?re on at 9pm.
Phil: Well thanks guys. Good luck with the single and we?ll see you in
London.
Undercut: Thanks Phil.
